Drilling has commenced in Aldous Major

Det norske has commenced drilling of exploration well 16/2-8, Aldous Major South. Drilling, according to schedule, is to be completed in the beginning of September.

Licencees are Statoil as operator (40 percent), Petoro (30 percent), Det norske (20 percent) and Lundin (10 percent). The well is drilled using the semi-submersible Transocean Leader rig and is the first out of two wells scheduled for the third quarter of 2011.

Aldous  Major is by Statoil categorized as Impact-wells with resource estimates of more than 100 million barrels of oil equivalents. With a 20 percent share, a discovery in Aldous Major South could greatly contribute to Det norske´s total reserves and production.
