SMOE to build platform on Ivar Aasen

Det norske oljeselskap ASA, as operator of the Ivar Aasen field, has awarded a contract for the topside on the Ivar Aasen field to SMOE in Singapore. The contract is worth approximately NOK four billion. Partners in the Ivar Aasen field are Statoil and Bayerngas.

CEO Erik Haugane says that this award represents a milestone in the Ivar Aasen development project:
-This is a major contract that is significant to both the Ivar Aasen development as well as Det norske as a company. The award of this contract confirms that the project progresses as planned. We are pleased to have entered into cooperation with a solid contractual partner who can deliver according to plan with regard to both price and schedule.

The contract with SMOE entails the provision of engineering, procurement and construction. The platform will be installed at a water depth of 112 meters in the North Sea. The Ivar Aasen project is situated west of the Johan Sverdrup field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, 180 km west of Stavanger. The field contains approximately 150 million barrels of oil equivalents.

SMOE is a subsidiary of Sembcorp Marine. SMOE has a proven track record of more than 30 years in the construction of offshore fixed platforms, floating production systems, specialized modules and modularization of onshore LNG plants for a worldwide clientele. SMOE will be working with the engineering partner Wood Group Mustang in the execution of the project.
The platform deck is 13,700 tonnes, and is integrated with a 70 men living quarters module cum helideck. The facilities include process, gas compression, separation, water injection, flare boom and metering. Construction is expected to commence in December 2013 and sail away is scheduled for March 2016. First oil from the Ivar Aasen field is expected in the fourth quarter of 2016.
